James Lissauer
Born 08.02.1885 ‐ Died 07.07.1944 ‐ Age 59 ‐ (murdered)
- Born on 8.2.1885 in Hamburg as the son of Lübeck merchant Ephraim Joseph Lissauer and his wife Helene, nee Lissauer; four older brothers: Meno, Hermann, Ernst, Friedemannfriedo, two sisters: Betty and Irma. Childhood at Schildstraße 5 in Lübeck within the extended Lissauer family.
- Attended the community school of the Israelite community on St.-Annen-Straße, religious instruction by Rabbi Salomon Carlebach. Trained as a butcher; later worked as a livestock transporter.
- Married Dora Christine Elisa Wisser, born on 15.12.1897 in Lübeck, Protestant; the marriage remained childless. From 1926 to 1934, several relocations, settling at Altengammer Straße 13 from 5.5.1934 onwards.
- In the November 9/10, 1938, Kristallnacht, he was arrested and transferred to Sachsenhausen concentration camp. Due to family connections in Holland, he was released and fled to Holland in December 1938; his wife followed him there in early February 1939.
- On 7.5.1940, after the German occupation of the Netherlands, both were interned at Westerbork camp. On 18.1.1944, they were deported to Theresienstadt, and on 16.5.1944, they were deported to Auschwitz. On 7.7.1944, he was murdered in Auschwitz at the age of 59.
