Fritz Schulze
Born 23.08.1893 ‐ (survived)
- Fritz Schulze, a native merchant, was born on October 23, 1893, in Calbe in the Altmark.
- In 1924, at the age of 30, Schulze moved from Hannover to Lübeck and acquired the house at Antoniestraße 2 in 1927.
- He operated a wine and spirits business on Hüxstraße and was the lessee of the bar at Königstraße 73.
- Schulze lived in a same-sex relationship with Wilhelm H, a waiter in his bar. The police learned about this relationship through denunciation by his mother, who lived with him.
- After years of extortion, threats, and defamation, he was arrested in 1937, accused of a same-sex relationship.
- Under torture and death threats, Schulze eventually confessed to his homosexuality. In March 1937, he was taken into "protective custody" and later sentenced to prison for violating § 175 of the German Criminal Code.
- Although he had already served the prison sentence during the pretrial detention, he was economically ruined.
- The Gestapo revoked his concession to operate his bar, and his property was looted by so-called "Volksgenossen" (fellow citizens). Schulze had to sell his house and possessions, including his wine and spirits business.
- His attempts to obtain restitution through a legal claim were rejected. Schulze left Lübeck in May 1938 and emigrated to Portugal.
- Upon his return to Germany in 1949, he initiated a restitution claim, which was ultimately dismissed.
